NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane women's tennis team looks to get back on track on a trip to Texas with a match in Lubbock on Friday, February 15 against 22nd-ranked Texas Tech at 11 a.m., before continuing on to Dallas for a noon matchup at conference foe SMU on Sunday.
Â
SCOUTING TEXAS TECH
The Red Raiders (4-3) enter Friday's match with losses in three of their last four matches, all of those coming against ranked opponents. Texas Tech is coming off a 4-0 road win at FIU last Sunday. The Raiders possess one ranked singles play in No. 30 Felicity Maltby and two doubles teams in No. 32 Kennedy Bridgforth and Lana Rush and No. 40 Nell Miller and Maltby.
Â
SCOUTING SMU
The Mustangs (3-3) will be the Green Wave's third conference opponent of the spring and have won three straight matches after dropping their first three. Last season, SMU made a run to The American's championship match, before falling to Tulsa.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Tulane (4-4) dropped a heartbreaker at home, 4-3, to American Athletic Conference foe Memphis. The Green Wave won the doubles point and took a 3-2 advantage in the overall match, but the Tigers scored a pair of three-set wins on courts two and five, respectively, to complete the comeback and escape with a victory.
Â
THE DOUBLES POINT
Tulane has won the doubles point in five of eight matches this season. The Green Wave's lone victory while not securing the point came in the season opener against Northwestern State, where Tulane walked away with a 4-3 victory.
Â
5-STAR SIGNEES
Head coach Maria Brito and assistant coach Keri Wong have left their imprints on the recruiting trail since their arrival, and their efforts paid off in a big way in November during the NCAA Early Signing Period. The Green Wave reeled in two 5-star recruits according to tennisrecruiting.net with the additions of Lahari Yelamanchili and Mackenzie Clark.
Â
Yelamanchili is the No. 1 ranked player in Illinois and the No. 50 overall player in the class of 2019, while Clark is a Morristown, N.J. native who trains in College Park, Md., ranking No. 3 in the state and No. 77 nationally.
