NEW ORLEANS – The No. 9 Tulane bowling team closes out its three week stretch of matches this weekend in Dallas, Texas, taking part in the 2019 SFA Stormin' Ladyjack Classic hosted by Stephen F. Austin.
Â
The three-day event takes place this weekend at USA Bowl in Dallas, which will also serve as the host site for the 2019 Southland Bowling League Championship in late March. Friday kicks off with five, five-game Baker matches at 9:30 a.m., with Saturday's five traditional matches at 9:25 a.m. There will be one more traditional match on Sunday morning before two best four-of-seven bracket matches to close the event at 8:30 a.m.
Â
The Green Wave are coming off an eighth-place finish at the Sunshine State Winter Classic last weekend in Orlando, Florida, where the team knocked down 12,601 total pins over the course of the three-day event, holding a pin average of 188.1.
Â
Coming into the weekend Tulane has a 53-37 overall record, holding a 22-12 record in Baker matches, and a 24-12 record in traditional matches. The squad has a pin average of 189.90, having knocked down 29,436 pins in 155 individual matches so far this season.
Â
Leading the way individually is senior Tiera Gulum, who last weekend bowled the first 300 game in Tulane program history against the Ladyjacks in Orlando. In 33 games this year the New York native has knocked down 6,561 pins for a 198.81 pin average which leads the team.
Â
Fellow senior Hailee Hammond had the next highest individual games of the weekend behind Gulum, as in the final two matches of Saturday she rolled a 245 against Nebraska and came back with a 257 score against Sacred Heart to earn a new career high.
Â
The last tournament of the month for the squad until March will arguably be Tulane's toughest, as this weekend features eight of the top 10 teams in the country, with all 12 teams in the field ranked in the NTCA Top 25. No. 1 McKendree, No. 2 Vanderbilt, No. 3 Nebraska, No. 4 Arkansas State and No. 5 Sam Houston State round out the top five, with SFA, Tulane and North Carolina A&T rounding out the top 10.
Â
The rest of the field includes Wisconsin-Whitewater, Central Missouri, Louisiana Tech and Adelphi, ranked 13th, 16th, 21st and 24th, respectively.
