Feb 15, 2019 | Sailing
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane sailing team opens spring competition at home this weekend, hosting the Nelson Roltsch Team Race at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday out of the Municipal Yacht Harbor on Lake Pontchartrain.
The Green Wave are set to host seven teams in the interconference regatta, including No. 10 Stanford, Miami University, Texas A&M University at Galveston, University of Texas, Jacksonville University, No. 7 College of Charleston and University of California at Santa Barbara.
Tulane will send three boats to compete against three boats from an opposing team in each of the nine flights, participating in 18 total races in two days on the water, weather depending.
Texas A&M Galveston and University of Texas represent the South Eastern Intercollegiate Sailing Association (SEISA) Conference alongside Tulane, while Miami University is in the Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association (MCSA). UC Santa Barbara and Stanford are both members of the Pacific Coast of Collegiate Sailing Conference (PCCSC) and Jacksonville and CofC are members of the South Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (SAISA).
Tulane finds familiar opponents in conference-foes Texas A&M Galveston and University of Texas, sailing against the two in the team's last competition on the water in the SEISA Open in Austin, Texas. The Green Wave finished second of 11 teams in the regatta, defeating the Aggies while falling just short of the Longhorns.
Stanford and Jacksonville were two of five teams that Tulane hosted in its first ever home varsity regatta in September 2018, with the two taking the first and second place spots, respectively.
