Feb 28, 2019 | Women's Beach Volleyball
NEW ORLEANS – The No. 17 Tulane beach volleyball team (2-3, 0-2 CCSA) heads back on the road this weekend, competing in the Horned Frog Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas on Friday and Saturday.
"This should be a very good weekend of volleyball," head coach Wayne Holly said. "We practiced well during the short week and improved as a result. We'll need to put aside distractions, continue to focus on improving in every moment and transfer our training sessions into competition. Tactically, we are becoming more diverse and I'm excited to see how that plays out this weekend."
The Green Wave are set to face No. 19 Grand Canyon and TCU on Friday at 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. before matching up against No. 16 Georgia State and Missouri State at 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Saturday.
Tulane competed against Grand Canyon for the first time ever in the 2018 season, defeating GCU in a close 3-2 match at home in the Green Wave Invitational.
After going 1-1 against TCU last season, Tulane now owns a 3-1 career record against the conference opponent. The Olive and Blue defeated the Horned Frog's on the road to start the season before falling to the team in late March at the Surf N Turf in Miami.
Tulane has matched up against Georgia State seven times in the team's history, earning a 2-5 overall record against the Panthers. The Green Wave lost to the No. 9 team in their last meeting in 2018, with their most recent win against the CCSA opponent coming at home in 2016.
Tulane and Missouri State had their first ever meeting last season, with the Green Wave sweeping the Bears in the Palmetto Invitational in Columbia, South Caroline to go 3-1 in the weekend tournament.
The Wave head into this weekend's tournament following a midweek 3-2 win over Houston Baptist.Â
Juniors Kaylie McHugh and Eva Torruella continued with their success in the No. 1 position, earning a two-set win, while junior Tarin Mergener and sophomore Addison Hermstad earned their third dual win of the season on court three.
Sophomore Haley Gibson and freshman Ellie Leitko also earned a victory in the No. 4 spot, defeating HBU in straight sets in their first time together on the sand.
