
Bowling Back in Action This Weekend in Florida

NEW ORLEANS – The No. 9 Tulane bowling team returns to action this weekend in Orlando, Florida, competing in the 2019 Sunshine State Winter Classic co-hosted by Stephen F. Austin and Sacred Heart University.
The Boardwalk Bowl in Orlando is the site for the event which begins Friday morning with five, five-game Baker matches, five traditional matches on Saturday, one more traditional match and the bracket finals to complete the competition on Sunday.
Tulane comes into the event with a 48-29 record on the season, faring well in traditional matches with a 22-9 overall mark. Through 155 single matches so far this season, the squad has a pin average of 189.90 with nearly 30,000 total pins knocked down.
Senior Tiera Gulum leads Tulane with a pin average of 198.67 this year, knocking down 5,563 pins in 28 matches. Sophomore Madison McCall is second on the squad with an average of 191.40 and has knocked down 5,168 pins.
The Green Wave are coming off their sixth top 10 finish of the year last weekend at the Prairie View A&M Invitational in Arlington, Texas, where Gulum and McCall finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Freshman Crystal Singh rolled a season-best 256 against Texas Southern in the event.
In the latest release of the NTCA Coaches Poll on Wednesday, Tulane came in at No. 9 and is one of seven Southland members to be listed in the February edition of the rankings.
The 14-team classic this weekend is paced by No. 2 Vanderbilt and No. 3 Nebraska, with Tulane and Stephen F. Austin rounding out the entrants ranked in the top half of the new rankings also in Florida. No. 12 Delaware State, No. 14 UAB, No. 15 Lincoln Memorial, No. 18 Maryville, No. 20 Sacred Heart, No. 22 Monmouth and No. 25 Youngstown State round out the rest of the ranked opponents.
