SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Green Wave track & field teams picked up another win in the pole vault this weekend when Nastja Modic won the event at Saturday's final day of the Bobcat Invitational.
Modic's victory was one of seven top-10 finishes for the Green Wave on Saturday as they wrapped up a weekend of participation in four different meets.
Modic set a new personal best and tied the fifth-best mark in program history when she cleared 4.00 meters in the pole vault to earn an event victory. Modic got over 3.55 meters, 3.70 meters and 3.85 meters all on her second try, then took three attempts to clear 4.00 as the only athlete in the competition to get over that height.
Alex Potts was 11th with a height of 3.55 meters while Rose Brutkiewicz and Megan Fitzgerald tied for 15th when they cleared 3.40 meters.
The quartet of Aldrianna Dupree, Maya Harewood, Kyah Loyd and Tahja Mitchell took third place in the 4x100 relay, crossing the finish line in 46.47 seconds. They came just .25 seconds shy of a victory in the event.
Mitchell was also third in the 200, setting a new personal best with a time of 23.79 seconds and earning the new seventh-fastest time in program history. Harewood claimed seventh in 24.03, a personal-best time that would have put her 10th all-time in team history before Mitchell bumped it out of the record books. Dupree was 25th in 24.63 seconds and Oneke Gwan was 41st in 25.14. Kyra Ness-Lanckriet came in 47th in 25.35 seconds.
Taking fifth in the 100 hurdles was Kyah Loyd with a time of 13.91 seconds. Louise Jones was 45th in 15.51 seconds.
Trina Malej earned a seventh-place finish in the triple jump for Tulane, leaping 12.35 meters on her second attempt of the day. Malej went 11.98 meters on her first try before increasing her distance more than 30 centimeters on her second try.
James Thomas Watson came in ninth in the javelin, throwing 52.94 meters. Watson got to 52.64 meters in his first three attempts to earn three more throws and converted that 52.94-meter throw on his fifth attempt on the afternoon.
Tom Coe placed 25th in the 800 for the Green Wave, crossing the finish line in 1:56.83. Jennifer LaMori took 42nd in the women's 800 with a time of 2:24.29, and Paige Fatland was 47th in 2:26.70.
Next up for Tulane will be the Conference Challenge hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette on April 12-13.
