NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane sailing team finished in first and second place among seven teams in the Garner-Tullis Team Race on Saturday, with the Green Wave's coed team going undefeated in the regatta.
"Today was a really solid day for the Green Wave," head coach Charles Higgins said. "We had both a coed team and a women's team which allowed our entire team to get an opportunity to contribute. Today was certainly the most at ease our team has been, and sailing at home always hopefully provides that benefit. As such to see the coed squad go undefeated was a real testament to the hard work they've been putting in over the last few days of our spring break training."
Tulane's team, made up of five skippers and nine crews, won 11 straight races in the team regatta, with the women's team earning nine victories and only dropping two races on the day.
"Equally as impressive was the performance of our women's team, whose only losses on the day came to the coed team," Higgins added. "Overall I am very pleased with the team's performance, and hopefully we can continue to build off our recent success."
The skippers in the coed races included freshman Ciara Rodriguez-Horan, freshman Luke Schumann, sophomore Eli Eckhouse, senior Harris Cram, senior David Graf and sophomore Caelan Watts while the crews included senior Grace Bloomfield, junior Stephen Hahn, senior Michael Conrad, senior Sophie Ricker, junior Brinton Hoover, freshman Isabella Bentz, sophomore Kate Lenhard, sophomore Katie Cartiglia and junior Eli Fisher.
Sophomore Alanna Austin, freshman Grace Siwicki and sophomore Katherine Byrnes served as the skippers in the women's team races, partnering with freshman Amelia Schofield, senior Kat Robinson and junior Josie Larkin.
The Green Wave recorded 1-2-3 wins in four of their races, while the women's team did the same against three opponents.
Tulane heads back on the road next weekend, participating in the St. Mary's Women's Regatta on Saturday and Sunday in St. Mary's, Michigan.
