Stewart Earns First American Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week Honor
Apr 2, 2019 | Men's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS - Tulane sophomore Hamish Stewart has been named American Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week in an announcement by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
The weekly nod is Stewart's first for his career and he is the second Green Wave player to receive the recognition this spring. Junior Ewan Moore received the same accolade from The American on January 29.
Last week, Stewart went undefeated in both singles and doubles in Tulane's two wins over conference opponents last week. Playing No. 2 singles, he won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, over 45th-ranked Tulsa's Joshua Goodger on Friday, before closing out a 7-5, 7-6(9) victory over SMU's 124th-ranked Jan-Simon Vrbsky on Sunday afternoon. It marked his second victory over a ranked player this year.
In doubles, Stewart played No. 2 in the lineup alongside teammate Akos Kotorman, as the duo posted a 2-0 record in helping the Green Wave win the doubles point against the Golden Hurricane and Mustangs. Stewart and Kotorman improved to 6-1 as a tandem this spring.
The Glasgow, Scotland native owns an 18-15 overall singles record and an 11-7 mark in dual matches this spring.
