Rotich Named Conference Track Athlete of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – Following a tremendous run at the Payton Jordan Invitational on Thursday night, Tulane distance runner Emmanuel Rotich has been named the American Athletic Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Rotich posted his season-best time in the 3K steeplechase out in California, running 8:41.05 in a field with some of the nation's best steeplechasers. That group included Rotich, who placed second in his heat and took three seconds off his previous best time of the year.
As of Tuesday morning, Rotich is second in the NCAA East Region with that time and eighth overall in the nation.
The weekly award is Rotich's first since May 8, 2018, and just the second outdoor track weekly award of his tremendous Tulane career. Rotich had previously won five weekly awards during the cross country season.
The reigning American Athletic Conference Cross Country Runner of the Year and three-time defending league champion in cross country, Rotich also is a returning Second Team All-American in the steeplechase each of the last two seasons.
Rotich will be seeking his fourth consecutive All-Conference performance in the steeplechase at The American Outdoor Conference Championships which begin on Friday in Wichita, Kansas.
