Clark Completes Undefeated Weekend at Samford Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Freshman Mackenzie Clark closed out an unbeaten weekend, as the Tulane women's tennis team defeated host Samford in doubles and South Alabama in singles on the final day of the Samford Invitational on Sunday.
Clark finished off her first weekend of college tennis with a 3-0 record in singles and a 3-0 mark in doubles with fellow freshman Lahari Yelamanchili against opponents from Memphis, Samford and South Alabama.
The Green Wave got the day started with a trio of doubles matches against the Bulldogs, as Clark and Yelamanchili cruised to a 6-2 win. Senior Laura Fabrizi and sophomore Adelaide Lavery achieved the same outcome by the same score. As a team, the Wave took two of three doubles contests on all three days of the tournament.
In singles play against the Jaguars, Tulane got a straight-set victory by Christina Sisti, 6-3, 6-4, over Juliette Talieu, before three others collected three-set wins. Clark battled back from a lost first frame to outlast Nikola Kohoutova, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5, as Lavery did the same against Milka Pasanen, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6. Fabrizi used an early advantage before eventually closing out Yurie Takanishi, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.
Tulane continues its fall season next weekend at the 2019 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Competition begins Saturday, October 5 with pre-qualifying singles and runs through the following Sunday's championship rounds on October 13.
