Tulane vs. Auburn: Postgame Quotes
Â
On prep for Auburn…
"We knew coming in that we would have to have a lot of discipline. It wasn't because of a lack of effort. Our guys played extremely hard."
Â
On how he thought his guys played…
"We had a couple of plays in there that didn't go our way. We had one right before the half where we thought we had an interception and them getting the ball on the one-yard line. When you play a team like Auburn at their place, you've got to play real good, you've got to play real sharp. And we weren't."
Â
On what was working in the first half…
"I thought we were doing a great job at the front. I thought we did an excellent job at stopping their run game. Our guys up front were doing a nice job, we were fitting well. We were playing fast and physical."
Â
On quarterback Justin McMillan…
"I think he's just like everybody. We didn't play real good. The quarterback plays great and he sometimes gets a ton of credit, and when he doesn't he gets a lot of blame. Justin played his heart out. I don't know how great of a job we did of protecting him and getting him open and all those other kind of things."
Â
On the difference between this game and past games against ranked opponents…
"I thought our guys came out and competed. And we're getting after it and we were really delivering blows, particularly in the first half. We just needed to get a score in there someplace or a big stop or takeaway. I think we were right in the game, it just didn't happen. We didn't get any breaks, almost throughout the whole ballgame."
Â
Â
  Â
Senior CB Thakarius Keyes
On his thoughts of the game…
"I was proud of our effort and how we played tonight. Even when we got down, we still knew that we could come back and win the game. Even when we were up, we still knew that we could fight and finish. Once we get back Monday and watch film, we'll just clean everything up and make sure we get everything right for the rest of the season."
Â
On the speech he gave the team…
"It was basically just about when we get back on Monday we'll watch the film, get through it, move on from it and we'll get back next week. We can't just think about the mistakes we made in this game as we get ready for the next game. Basically, just coming to practice every day with the mindset that we're going to win this season and not lose another game the rest of the season."
Â
Senior WR Darnell Mooney
On moving forward…
"We need to prepare better. We just have to execute way better. Coach (Fritz) put us in a good position to execute plays, so we just need to work on that. We have to go out there and run the plays."
Â
On the highlight of the game…
"Offensively, we didn't have too many big highlights. Defensively, we did our thing. We just have to play for our defense. We need to make sure we have their back as good as they have ours."
Â
Junior LB Marvin Moody, LB, Jr.
On the game overall…
"I feel like we defended the run in the first half really well and the pass as well. In the second half we could have done better on the run. But I feel like we did a really good job this game."
Â
On the first half of the game…
"We came out very high energy. Everybody was excited for the game. It was a big game and it put us on a big stage. The coaches put us in a great position to succeed."Â
