Dominik Koepfer Cracks Top 100 of ATP World Rankings

NEW ORLEANS – Following a career-changing performance at the 2019 U.S. Open, Tulane men's tennis alumnus Dominik Koepfer has ascended to a career-high of No. 86 in the latest ATP world rankings.
A Furtwangen, Germany native, Koepfer's world ranking marks his debut in the ATP's top 100, rising 32 spots.
The 2016 Tulane graduate made a lasting impression on the world of tennis over the last three weeks, clawing his way through three rounds of U.S. Open qualifying and earning a spot in the main draw of his second Grand Slam tournament of the year. He also reached the second round of Wimbledon in June.
Koepfer proceeded to defeat three ATP top 100 players, including No. 97 Jaume Opelka, No. 42 Reilly Opelka and No. 18 Nikoloz Basilashvili, and reach the round of 16. He was able to win the first set against world No. 5 Daniil Medvedev, but dropped the subsequent three frames, including a tough 7-6(2) battle in the fourth, as his tournament run concluded. Medvedev went on to fall to Rafael Nadal in five sets in the championship match.
Following the impressive showing in New York, Koepfer withdrew from upcoming ATP Challenger events and has altered his focus on the ATP Tour's "Asia Swing."
