Bowling Opens 2020 With Blue & White Vegas Classic

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The No. 16 Tulane bowling team returns to action this weekend in Las Vegas, participating in the 2020 Stormin' Blue & White Vegas Classic at the South Point Bowling Plaza hosted by Mount Saint Mary's.

The three-day event gets underway Friday morning with five five-game Baker matches, followed by Saturday's five traditional team matches. Sunday's bracket finals will determine the final standings and overall team champion.

Each day of the competition will be streamed live on FloBowling, with a link to the tournament hub on the bowling schedule page TulaneGreenWave.com.

The Green Wave roll into the 2020 portion of the schedule this week with a 27-24 overall record in all competitions. Tulane is 12-7 in Baker matches so far this season, while sitting at 9-11 in traditional matches and 6-6 in bracket matches on the last day.

As a group the last time out, Tulane knocked down 12,825 total pins to earn an 11th place finish at the UMES Hawk Classic back in November. The team went 6-7 in the event, ending the tournament with a pin average of .191.4, having a trio of games with 1,000 or more pins knocked down.

Senior Isabelle Lee had her highest finish of the season as she placed fifth individually by knocking down 1,064 pins for a 212.80 pin average. Lee leads the team with 3,661 pins knocked down in single matches this year, with a pin average of 203.38.

The only bowler to appear in all 20 single-game matches this year is junior Madison McCall. The South Carolina native will be looking to take her 64th overall finish at the USA Team Trials and U.S. Amateur Championships last week into the season where she leads the squad with total pins knocked down with 3,769.

At the USBC USA Team Trials and U.S. Amateur Championships, freshman Amelia Vasquez finished 104th, Veronica Petrinec was 139th, Jenica Baron was 158th and Crystal Singh was 161st. Future Tulane bowler Morgan Gitlitz finished 90th overall.

The 14-team Blue & White Classic features 10 NTCA Top 25 teams, paced by No. 1 McKendree, No. 3 Nebraska and No. 5 Vanderbilt. Southland Bowling League member Stephen F. Austin is last top 10 team at No. 8, as host Mount Saint Mary's sits at 13, Delaware State at 14, Maryville at 15, Tulane at 16, Monmouth at 23 and Prairie View A&M rounding out the ranked teams at 25.

The tournament will also feature Grambling, Saint Francis, Texas Southern and Valparaiso.
