Tulane Football Selected as the January NOLA Built Team of the Month
Feb 6, 2020 | Football
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University football team places a strong emphasis on community involvement and gives back to its communities both near and far.Â
Â
The Green Wave football team's commitment to community service was on full display this past January during the 2020 Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas where the squad volunteered their time at the Tarrant Area Food Bank.Â
Â
The Green Wave teamed up with members from the University of Southern Mississippi football team at the Tarrant Area Food Bank where the two squads filled 600 bags of food for homeless veterans.Â
Â
"This team is very special. Not only are they back to back bowl champions, they also find time between their early morning practices and hectic afternoon class schedules to give back to the city of New Orleans. They set the standard for what well-rounded student-athletes should look like."
Â
The 600 bags totaled over 3,000 pounds of food and will be donated to the Salvation Army and Union Gospel Mission of Fort Worth.
Â
"These are two schools from two states that have incredible tradition and an incredible history," Tarrant Area Food Bank Senior Director of Development Stephen J.C. Raeside said. "Here in Fort Worth, we have a profound history of serving our hungry and our homeless, especially our veterans."Â
