Mar 6, 2020 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS - Tulane women's tennis head coach Maria Brito has signed Kristen Borland to a National Letter of Intent as the first member of the program's 2020 signing class.
"We are extremely excited to officially welcome Kristen to the Green Wave family," Brito said. "Kristen is someone who is very driven, loves challenges and is motivated to succeed on and off the court. She has a genuine personality that anyone can instantly connect with. Kristen's values, attitude, enthusiasm and passion for the game are what make Kristen so special."
A Toronto, Ontario native, Borland joins Tulane following a career at Havergal College Prep in Canada. She holds a No. 25 junior national ranking in Canada and an open ranking of 29. She has also achieved an ITF junior ranking high of 572.
In September of 2019, Borland was a doubles champion and a singles finalist at the ITF Niagara event. She reached the semifinals of the 36th All-Canadian Junior Championships in April of 2018 and followed up that performance as a finalist in both singles and doubles at the ITF Amistad Cup in Cuba in June of 2018.
In 2014, Borland was the U14 national doubles champion in Canada and also won the Ontario Open singles crown.
At Havergal, Borland played No. 1 singles and doubles under coach Gordon Bullock, where she went undefeated individually while winning the OFSAA doubles crown. In the classroom, she held first class honors standing with distinction all four years, maintaining a cumulative average about 90 percent.
Up next, the Green Wave head to Louisiana-Lafayette to take on the Ragin' Cajuns on Saturday, March 7. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
