SENIOR DAY: Tulane Honors Track and Field's Paige Fatland
Apr 26, 2020 | Track & Field
EDITOR'S NOTE: Over the next few months, TulaneGreenWave.com will honor the 35 seniors that had their respective collegiate careers cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic through this SENIOR DAY series. We hope you the fans enjoy this series and remember the seniors from the 2020 graduating class.
Joining the Green Wave roster in the fall of 2016, Paige Fatland spent four years at Tulane while competing on the cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field teams. The New Orleans native won the 800-meter race twice in her career, indoor at LSU and outdoor at Southeastern, also helping the distance medley relay team to a sixth-place finish at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championship in 2018. Athletically, Fatland totaled 14 top 10 finishes during her time Uptown, while academically, she earned a spot on the AAC All-Academic Team as a freshman and will go onto earn a degree in psychology and early childhood education — along with a minor in business — this May.
Today, we honor Fatland in our SENIOR DAY web series.
Q AND A WITH PAIGE FATLAND
What made you want to come to Tulane?
"I initially decided to come to Tulane because I was born and raised in New Orleans. There is no better city in the world and I wanted to experience my city from the standpoint of a Tulane student. Tulane takes care of its students like family, hosting many fun events like snow day, offering beneights and coffee or snowballs, and the homecoming fair. My mom has worked for Tulane for over 30 years now, and Tulane is a big part of our family."
What is your favorite memory from your time at Tulane?
"My favorite memory from my time at Tulane is traveling to Los Angeles with the track team. It was my sophomore year and my best track season where I ran a 2:14 in the 800m race. We went to Los Angeles for spring break and got to go to the beach in the mornings, practice on a blue track in the afternoon and explore Los Angeles at night. I loved seeing the city with my teammates and finding cool shops and stepping foot into an extremely cold Pacific Ocean while wearing robes from the hotel to keep warm."
What's next?
"Next year I hope to teach pre-k at a local school in New Orleans. I was blessed with a great education from this city and hope to provide a great education for many generations to come!"
