SENIOR DAY: Tulane Honors Women's Tennis' Laura Fabrizi
Apr 8, 2020 | Women's Tennis
EDITOR'S NOTE: Over the next few months, TulaneGreenWave.com will honor the 35 seniors that had their respective collegiate careers cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic through this SENIOR DAY series. We hope you the fans enjoy this series and remember the seniors from the 2020 graduating class.
A Caracas, Venezuela native, Laura Fabrizi has lettered for the Green Wave's women's tennis program each of the last three seasons after transferring into the program during the summer of 2017 following one year at Florida Atlantic University. She played at or near the top of the singles lineup in each of her three seasons at Tulane, earning 19 wins. Fabrizi collected 38 doubles wins during that time as well, including an impressive 20-11 overall record with a 15-7 mark during the spring as a junior in 2018-19.
Just 15 matches into the 2020 spring season, she was unable to complete her final season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today, we honor Fabrizi in our SENIOR DAY web series.
Q AND A WITH LAURA FABRIZI
What made you want to come to Tulane?
"In talking to Maru (Maria Brito), she was also transitioning after becoming the new head coach. I wanted a different culture than the one I previously had. I wanted one where hard work was appreciated and where my personal needs were met. I was looking for a program that was going to push, challenge and respect me as a person and a student-athlete. I wanted that with my coaches, teammates, professors and fellow student-athletes. Tulane has given me all of that and I've been able to grow as a person."
What is your favorite memory from your time at Tulane?
"Spring break during my first two years were amazing because we spent a lot of time together as a team. My first year, we stayed in New Orleans, so we were just hanging out in each other's homes and practicing. The next year, we all stayed at a house in Orlando and had the greatest time ever. We got to bond and really know one another both on and off the court because we were also playing a lot of matches. We got to know each other on a personal level instead of the normal routine of practicing and going to classes."
What's next?
"My family is in Spain right now, but I want to get my master's degree and also be able to be home for a bit. I'm going to study human resources while I'm in Spain so that I can further my experience and education, get an internship and be near my family. After that, I hope to return to the U.S., with my second degree and apply for jobs."
