
Spring 2021 Volleyball Positional Preview: Setters

The second in a three-part series on the spring 2021 Tulane volleyball team.
The Green Wave roster features three setters who each contribute greatly to the success of the program's offense — senior Jenna Ibieta and juniors Taylor Henigsman and Amanda Giardina.
Giardina stepped up significantly in her second season in Olive and Blue, playing in 121 sets and 31 of the team's 33 matches in 2019. The Slidell, Louisiana native led the setters with 630 assists on the season to average 5.21 per set while also finishing fourth on the roster with 224 digs.
The junior was third on the team with 24 service aces as a sophomore and also earned six double-doubles, recording double-digit assists in all but one match. Giardina finished with a career-high 37 assists against Tulsa, also adding 12 digs and three aces in the match.
Ibieta enters her final year Uptown after appearing in 90 sets and 26 matches in 2019, finishing second on the team in assists with 424 to average 4.71 per set. The New Orleans native totaled 149 digs to finish with four double-doubles on the season, also adding 13 service aces and 13 kills.
The senior recorded double-digit assists in all but five matches as a junior, earning a career-high 32 assists against Ole Miss.
Henigsman appeared in 54 sets and saw time in 19 matches in the 2019 season, recording 253 assists to average 4.69 per set. The junior added 75 digs and 10 service aces as a sophomore, recording double-digit assists in 12 matches.
The Tulane volleyball team is set to open its first-ever spring season on Friday, as the team heads to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to take on Southern Miss and UNO in the non-conference tri-match.
