Volleyball Announces Ervanian as Final Addition to 2020-21 Roster

NEW ORLEANS — Tulane volleyball associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Brian Yale announced on Monday the final addition to the team's 2020-21 roster, freshman Sophia Ervanian.
"We're excited to finally have the opportunity to post Sophia's announcement! She's actually been here training with us all year, but unfortunately had this particular moment interrupted in the fall," Yale said. "Sophia came to us highly recommended by a couple coaches that I've known and trusted for a long time. They raved about her work ethic, vision, maturity and how good they thought she could be at the college level. After only a few weeks in the gym this past fall, she's already shown us that while they were right, those statements were immensely undersold! Volleyball-wise, she's made our team deeper and stronger since day one. But better yet, her character and personality are second to none, and will make her a great ambassador for Tulane University as well as Tulane Volleyball. We're thrilled she chose to be a member of our program!"
Ervanian joins the Green Wave from Ponte Vedra, Florida, where she spent three years competing as a libero/defensive specialist on Ponte Vedra High School's volleyball team.
The 5'6" defender helped the Sharks to two state championship titles in 2017 and 2019, becoming part of the first Northeast Florida public school to win multiple FSHAA volleyball state championships.
Voted the team's best defensive player in 2016 and 2019, Ervanian totaled 469 digs in her senior season, averaging 5.7 digs per set in 83 sets played
Ervanian also played club for the Jacksonville Juniors Volleyball Association (JJVA) 18N Austin and was a four-year letterwinner on Ponte Vedra's varsity lacrosse team, competing for North Florida's national team.
In her first year at Tulane, Ervanian plans to major in either pre-med or business.
Ervanian joins middle/right-side hitter Anna Davis and outside hitter Mackenzie Martin as newcomers on this year's roster.
Tulane volleyball is currently readying for its first-ever spring season, which is set to begin with non-conference matches in January and American Athletic Conference play starting in February. Be sure to check TulaneGreenWave.com for all schedule releases and updates.
