Volleyball Adds Three to 2022 Signing Class
Nov 10, 2021 | Women's Volleyball
NEW ORLEANS — Tulane volleyball associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Brian Yale announced on Wednesday three members of the team's 2022 signing class.
Payton George, middle hitter of Burbank, California, Sabrina Skyers, middle/outside hitter of West Orange, New Jersey and Nia Washington, outside hitter of Gretna, Louisiana, each signed letters of intent and are officially set to join the Green Wave roster in the fall of next year.
“After such an unorthodox recruiting cycle, we are thrilled to have put together such an exciting and versatile ’22 Class. As a whole, they are arguably the deepest, most talented class we’ve signed during our time here. We certainly look forward to being able to recognize each and every one of them once NCAA rules allow.”ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH/RECRUITMENT COORDINATOR BRIAN YALE

Personal BIO: Comes to Tulane from Burbank, California, where she is a current letter winner at Village Christian Schools. As a middle hitter she was a D3 State champion and CIF champion her freshman year and earned second team All-League Honors and Scholar Athlete Honors her sophomore year. George boasts an impressive 163 kills, .430 hitting percentage, 16.7 ace percentage and 72 blocks for her 27-8 Crusaders. The incoming Green Wave freshman was also a member of the SG Elite 18 Roshambo club team from 2017-2021, earning bronze, silver and gold accolades during her career, most recently silver in the SCVA Regional Bid Tournament in 2021. George intends to study Kinesiology at Tulane with the intention of becoming an athletic trainer in the future.
Yale on George: " Payton was a bit of a “late” find for us, but really solidified this class. We feel she will provide our program with a rare combination of power, speed, and volleyball IQ. We pride ourselves on being a team that is known for constantly stressing our opponents with a dominant middle attack. Payton will allow us to continue and even amplify that reputation throughout her career. We’re really excited to see what she will do in Olive and Blue."

Personal BIO: Comes to Tulane from West Orange, New Jersey, where she is now a three-year volleyball letter winner at Kent Place School. The 6’1 outside hitter was named a NJISAA Prep All-Star during the 2019-2020 season, helping her team win a NJ Prep State Title both her sophomore and senior year. The incoming Green Wave freshman currently has 104 kills, 51 blocks, 106 digs, 11 assists, 68 service points, 17 aces and counting as her high school team heads into the post season with a 19-0 record. Skyers has also played for USANY at the 18-Open level since age 14 and competed with the team at the Global Challenge in Pula, Croatia. Skyers was also tabbed as an AAU Northeast Super Regional All-Tournament Team Selection in June of 2021. The New Jersey native’s major at Tulane is currently undecided.
Yale on Skyers: " We believe Sabrina has the ability to be one of the most electrifying athletes in the American Conference. Her combination of size, explosiveness, power, and offensive versatility will make her a tough match up for any opponent. When you tack on how mature, detailed, and academically disciplined she is, Sabrina is a perfect fit for Tulane. A total steal for our program! Her arrival to campus can’t come soon enough!"

Personal BIO: Made the short trip down I-10 to Uptown from Gretna, Louisiana, where she is an outside hitter for the six-time reigning state champion Country Day Cajuns. The four-year letter winner and three-time state champion was the 2020 State Championships MVP, Country Day team MVP, 2020 Division V player of the year, named to the 2019 and 2020 All-Metro team and the 2019 and 2020 All-State team. Washington was also voted team captain in both the 2020 and 2021 seasons. Washington played club volleyball for NOLA Volleyball Club where she was the 15-year-old National Premiere Division 3rd place winner and All-Star, as well as the 17-year-old National Premiere Division Champion and National Premiere Division MVP. Washington comes into Tulane with an undecided major but has interests in both medicine ad entrepreneurship.
Yale on Washington: "Nia will be an impact player and crowd favorite – not just because she is a local product and Tulane Volleyball legacy. Nia is a high flyer, extremely fast and can cover the entire court. Her strong skillset and tough mental game, combined with a passion and competitive focus on the court drives both herself and her teammates to be better. She’s a winner, pure and simple. We can’t wait to have Nia in the gym every day."
