
Tulane Ready for the Pioneer Thanksgiving Classic this Weekend

NEW ORLEANS –Tulane University women's basketball team is in Denver, Colorado, for the Pioneer Thanksgiving Classic hosted by the University of Denver on Friday and Saturday.
The Green Wave will face Wyoming on Friday and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi on Saturday. Tipoff for both contests is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT.

This will be the first ever meeting between Tulane and Wyoming and the third all-time meeting between the Wave and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi. The Green Wave is 1-1 in the series against the Islanders. The Wave won the first meeting against the Islanders 57-53 on the road on Jan. 5, 2004, but Texas A&M - Corpus Christi took the last matchup 75-57 in New Orleans on Dec. 7, 2004.

This season, head coach Lisa Stockton and her staff welcome back 10 letterwinners, four newcomers and four starters, including All-American Athletic Conference honoree Krystal Freeman who averaged 12.3 points and 7.8 rebounds for the Green Wave last season. Tulane brings back 67.8 percent of its scoring and 82.3 percent of its rebounding from the 2020-21 season.

Four players are averaging double figures in the scoring column for the Olive and Blue with all five starters averaging at least eight points per contest. Redshirt senior Moon Ursin leads the team averaging 15.6 and 8.4 rebounds per game. The Destrehan, Louisiana, native earned American Athletic Conference Player of the Week after she averaged 19.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in wins over TCU and South Alabama for the Green Wave. Dynah Jones follows with 14.2 points per contest while Krystal Freeman is averaging 11 points and eight boards. Arsula Clark rounds out the top scorers for Tulane posting 10.4 and 3.6 assists per game.

Tulane is coming off its firÂÂst loss of the season after falling 75-58 on the road to LSU on Tuesday. Jones led the offense against the Tigers finishing with 18 points, including 11 in the third quarter, on 6-of-10 shooting with four triples. Ursin posted her second double-double of the season in the contest adding 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Prior to taking its first defeat of the 2021-22 campaign, the Green Wave started 4-0 with wins over Southeastern Louisiana (66-58), Alabama (69-66), TCU (88-78, 2OT) and South Alabama (86-53).

The Cowgirls enter the game 2-2 on the season with wins over CSU Pueblo and Chadron State. Wyoming has faced an AAC team this season as it fell 57-48 at home against Wichita State on Nov. 13. In Wyoming's last outing the Cowgirls defeated Chadron State 71-48 at home on Monday. Two players scored in double figures as Wyoming shot 42.1 percent from the field as a team in the win.

Texas A&M – Corpus Christi is coming off an 81-61 win at home over Pacific on Monday. Four players posted double digits in the scoring column for the Islanders with Makinna Serrata leading the team with 28 points. The Islanders will face the University of Denver on Friday before squaring off with Tulane on Saturday.

Following the Pioneer Thanksgiving Classic, the Green Wave will head East to compete in the Miami Holiday Classic on Dec. 4-5. Tulane will face Arkansas – Pine Bluff on Saturday and host-school Miami on Sunday.
