Bowling Heads to Music City Classic

NEW ORLEANS – The No. 12 Tulane University bowling team will be back in action this weekend in Smyrna, Tenn., at the Music City Classic.

The three-day event will get underway Friday, March 5, with five five-game Baker matches. The Green Wave will then move to Saturday's five traditional team matches. Sunday will feature three best of seven Bakers starting at 9 a.m.

Tulane comes into the weekend sporting a 14-14 overall record. The Green Wave knocked down 6,724 pins as they placed fifth at the Lady Techsters Classic. The Olive and Blue posted a 3-3 overall record in Dallas.

Tulane logged two wins over No. 6 Sam Houston State and one over No. 10 Stephen F. Austin in its last time out.

Sophomore Amelia Vasquez led Tulane with 1,490 pins and a 212.86 pin average for the tournament. She placed fourth individually. Vasquez rolled a season-high 267 in the win over No. 10 Stephen F. Austin. She also logged games of 231, 222, 210, 196 and 181 on the weekend. Vasquez has posted a team-best 204.0 pin average this season.

Senior Madison McCall was hot on her heals with 1,476 pins and a 210.86 pin average. She closed the tournament tied for fifth. McCall registered her tournament-high game of 244 pins against Vanderbilt. She also had games of 222, 215, 213, 211, 192 and 179 for the tournament. McCall is tied with Vasquez for top pin average at 204.0 this season.

The star-studded field will include all the NTCA top five - No. 1 McKendree, No. 2 Vanderbilt, No. 3 Arkansas State, No. 4 Nebraska and No. 5 Louisiana Tech. Other ranked teams in the field include No. 6 Sam Houston State, No. 9 Maryville, No. 10 Stephen F. Austin, No. 11 Lincoln Memorial, No. 13 NC A&T, No. 16 Alabama State, No. 19 Valpariso, No. 22 Central Missouri, No. 23 Kentucky Wesleyan, and No. 24 Wisconsin Whitewater. Spalding, Tusculum, UAB and Jackson State will round out the field.
