
Bowling Closes Music City Classic Strong to Place Fifth

SMYRNA, Tenn. – The No. 17 Tulane University bowling team finished fifth at the Music City Classic on Sunday, March 7. The Green Wave closed the tournament with a 3-0 record in the final day and a 7-6 overall record for the weekend.
Tulane now has a 21-20 overall record on the season.
"I am extremely pleased with a fifth-place finish, especially after having a rocky start with poor execution," Tulane head coach Hayley Veitch said. "The team continued to battle throughout the tournament and ended with a spectacular performance in match play. This team is tough to beat on Sundays, and we will continue to work on being more confident and competitive from the start. Overall, though we are still improving every single tournament!"
Tulane entered Sunday's match play in eighth place. The Olive and Blue opened the day strong with a 4-0 (193-183, 212-208, 223-169, 181-148) sweep of No. 8 Sam Houston State. Tulane followed that performance up with a 4-2 (165-147, 181-168, 163-177, 181-161, 173-180, 190-173) win over No. 22 Central Missouri. The Green Wave completed the undefeated day with a 4-0 (247-213, 218-187, 209-192, 203-143) sweep of No. 16 Stephen F. Austin to grab fifth overall in the tournament.
Senior Madison McCall led the way for the Olive and Blue with 1,050 total pins and a 210.0 pin average. She posted the team's tournament-high with 238 in the Green Wave's 945-943 loss to Kentucky Wesleyan. McCall also logged games of 216, 207, 204 and 185 for the tournament.
Tulane opened the competition Friday with a 2-3 record in Baker matches. The Green Wave grabbed a 1,020-867 win over Alabama State and a 1,052- 931 win over No. 14 Maryville on Friday.
The Olive and Blue also went 2-3 on Saturday snagging wins over Jackson State (964-849) and No. 15 Lincoln Memorial (911-831).
Tulane closed the tournament with 12,301 total pins and a 192.2 average.
Freshman Morgan Gitlitz finished second on the team and 24th overall with 991 total pins and a 198.20 pin average. Gitliz rolled three games of 200+ with a 226 in the third game, 214 in the fifth and 205 in the fourth.
Sophomore Amelia Vasquez placed 35th with 954 total pins and a 190.80 pin average. She logged two 200+ games with a 224 and a 213 in the second and first games, respectively.
Junior Veronica Petrinec closed the tournament in 49th overall with 922 total pins and a 184.40 pin average. She bowled her tournament-high 205 in the third game.
Sophomore Jenica Baron placed 76th overall and junior Crystal Singh rounded out the Tulane lineup in 112th.
No. 1 McKendree took the team title with 12,772 total pins in 62 games, while No. 5 Nebraska placed second with 13,640 pins in 68 games.
Tulane will stay on the road as they travel to the Mid Winter Invitational on Friday, March 12. Arkansas State will host the tournament in Jonesboro, Ark.
