Tulane Bowling Alumni Spotlight: Veronica Petrinec
Jun 30, 2026 | Women's Bowling
Tulane bowling's alumni spotlight series continues rolling with the latest edition, of which 2022 Tulane graduate Veronica Petrinec is the subject. As a double major, Petrinec earned bachelor's degrees in sociology and political science, and she is a recent law school graduate.
Â
Petrinec's time at Tulane began in 2018, when she first stepped on campus as a freshman. The main reason she picked Tulane was the strong sense of community that she immediately felt, both on campus and throughout New Orleans. She felt a sense of belonging, describing the city of New Orleans and Tulane University as one and the same – there is no one without the other. That sense of community quickly became Petrinec's favorite thing about being at Tulane, as New Orleans truly became home during her four years on campus. Furthermore, Petrinec loved being a part of a team of women who were driven to be their best, both academically and athletically.
Â
During her four years as a Green Wave bowler, Petrinec and her teammates helped the program take multiple strides forward. The program's first (and to date only) Baker 300 game occurred during her time on the squad, and Petrinec was the lead-off bowler in that game. However, a different accomplishment was her favorite memory from her time on the team. During Petrinec's senior season the squad claimed two overall tournament wins, the first of which was the SWIBC I to begin the season, the first overall team win during her time with the Wave. This victory was three years in the making as Petrinec described, which made the feeling of finally achieving it during her senior campaign all the more special.
Â
"I loved that moment because it felt like I was surrounded by a group of women who had worked incredibly hard for so long to reach that goal together," said Petrinec. "It was an unforgettable experience."
Â
Individually, Petrinec posted a career-best score of 246 in February of 2019 against Texas Southern. She would claim a spot on the Southland Bowling League Academic Honor Roll. This is a byproduct of the incredible Tulane education Petrinec received, which she noted opened the door to countless opportunities.
Â
After earning her dual degree in 2022 from Tulane and closing out her bowling career, Petrinec turned to her next challenge – law school. The Titusville, Florida, native made the move to St. Louis, Missouri, to attend Saint Louis University's law school. Having always felt a strong calling to help others and advocate for those who may not have a voice, this path was an easy choice for Petrinec. A law career provides a unique opportunity to stand up for people and protect their rights as she described, adding, "Being able to make a real impact in someone's life is what ultimately drew me to this path."
Â
Petrinec recently graduated from law school in May 2026 and will sit for the bar exam in the coming month of July.
Â
Perhaps the biggest takeaway from her time with Tulane bowling is the networking and connections Petrinec has made with Tulane alumni and fans. Having lived in multiple cities since graduating, she has found Tulane alumni and connections in each location. The Green Wave bond runs deep, as it's not just the connections shared with other alumni after last donning the Olive and Blue. During her time on the bowling team, Petrinec met some of her closest friends, women she hopes will one day stand beside her at her wedding. "I will always be grateful for the friendships I built and for the incredible women I had the privilege of competing with and against during my time there," said Petrinec.
Â
Before she takes the major leap of taking on the bar exam, Petrinec leaves current and future Green Wave bowlers with a piece of advice that has embodied herself. "If you're ever unsure about taking a chance, ask yourself one question: will you regret not doing it later? If the answer is yes, then go for it," Petrinec said. "Life is too short to wait for the perfect moment. Your moment is now."
