NEW ORLEANS—Tulane University track and field junior Tri Malej has been named the American Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week the league announced today.
Malej was recognized for a record-breaking, personal-best triple jump mark at last week's three-day Crimson Tide Invitational. Malej's mark of 13.28m was a new Tulane all-time outdoor record, the leading mark in the conference, and is currently tied for eighth-best mark nationally.
This is the second time this season that Malej has been honored with weekly award. Malej was awarded on March 24 as well after an exceptional performance of 13.12m in the triple jump at the UCF Black and Gold Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
"This is an exciting time in Tri's athletic development," director of cross country and track and field Eric Peterson said. "Tri is literally improving week by week and receiving this honor for the second time this season is an example of the level of excellence that Tri is aspiring to. I am really happy for Tri."
Malej continues to be a top competitor this season and remains undefeated in all four meets so far in the triple jump. Malej competed to win in the indoor season as well, placing first in all three meets in which the Green Wave competed.
Malej looks to continue the season strong this coming weekend in Baton Rouge as Tulane travels to the Boots Garland Invitational at LSU.
