NEW ORLEANS — The RV Tulane beach volleyball team (19-11, 6-9 CCSA) is gearing up for its final weekend of regular season action as the Green Wave head to Gulf Shores, Alabama, for a competitive tournament against some of the nation's top teams and CCSA opponents.
Tulane will first face No. 7Â TCUÂ at 9Â a.m. and Southern Miss at 2:30Â p.m. on Saturday before competing against host No. 4 FSU at 9Â a.m. on Sunday. The teams ranking first and second after three matches will then compete against each other at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, while the teams ranking third and fourth will face each other beginning at 2 p.m.
In their last time out, the Green Wave went 3-1 at the TCU Tournament in Fort Worth, Texas, defeating Houston Baptist (4-1), Texas A&M Corpus Christi (4-1) and Boise State (4-1) while falling only to No. 7 TCU (1-4).
The team's top pair, in senior Addison Hermstad and sophomore Samantha Mehlman, moved to 25-5 in 2021 after going 2-1 from the No. 2 position and 1-0 from the No. 1 position on the road.Â
TCU has put together an impressive 21-4 record in 2021, earning wins in all of its matches except against No. 11 Stetson, No. 10 Grand Canyon and No. 2 FSU twice. After falling to the Horned Frogs 1-4 last weekend in the TCU Invitational, Tulane moved to an even 4-4 record all-time against the conference opponent.
Owning a 9-20 record in 2021 is Southern Miss, who most recently dropped two matches to No. 19 Georgia State and two matches to No. 18 South Carolina before defeating Southeastern Louisiana and UNO on Tuesday. Tulane is undefeated against USM with a 5-0 overall record, earning a 4-1 win over the Golden Eagles two weeks ago in the Southern Miss Beach Invitational.
FSU is 24-4 so far this year, dropping two matches to No. 4 UCLA, one to No. 1 USC and one to No. 15 FIU. The Green Wave are 0-13 against the Seminoles, falling to them 0-5 earlier this season at home in the Bayou Beach Duals.
