CCSA Beach Volleyball Championship
NEW ORLEANS — The RV Tulane beach volleyball team (21-13, 8-11 CCSA) is headed to Huntsville, Alabama, this weekend to compete in the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Championship beginning on Friday at the John Hunt Park Sand Volleyball Complex.
The No. 5 seeded Green Wave are set to open the postseason tournament with a match against No. 4 South Carolina at 10 a.m. on Friday, with both teams competing in the Aqua Bracket. The winner of the match will then compete against the winner of the No. 1 Florida State vs. No. 8 UNCW match, while the losing team will face the loser of that match on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
The Olive and Blue wrapped up the regular season last weekend in Gulf Shores, Alabama, going 2-2 in the FSU Tournament. Tulane defeated Southern Miss twice (4-1), while falling to No. 7 TCU (0-3) and No. 4 FSU (0-5).
The Green Wave's 21-13 overall record marks the first time since 2018 that the team has earned 20 or more wins, with the team being just three wins short of tying the program record of 24 set in 2017.
Leading Tulane this season is senior Addison Hermstad and sophomore Samantha Mehlman, who have put together a 27-7 overall record, going 1-0 on court one, 10-3 on court two and 16-4 on court three. The duo currently ranks eighth in the nation on court two with a win percentage of 76.9 and ninth on court three with an 80.0 win percentage.
Also totaling more than 20 wins on the sand this season is graduate student Avery Arellano with a 22-11 record (7-3 on court three, 15-7 on court four) and freshman Lara Torruella with a 23-8 mark in her first year Uptown (18-6 on court four, 7-0 on court five).
The No. 17Â Gamecocks have put together a 21-7 record so far this season, going 12-5 in conference play. South Carolina closed the regular season on an eight-match winning streak, earning five wins over ranked opponents in 2021.
The Green Wave are 2-9 in their career against the Gamecocks, last falling to them on day one of the 2019 CCSA Championship (0-5).
