Tulane Wraps Up First Day of Competition at the NCAA East Regional

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Tulane University track and field team finished the first day of the 2021 NCAA East Regional on Thursday.
Junior Nastja Modic led the way for the Green Wave with a personal best 4.17m in the pole vault. The mark was good enough to finish in 15th overall and to earn a third all-time mark in the Tulane record book.
"Modic really rose to the occasion and surpassed all expectations," director of cross country and track and field, Eric Peterson said, "We are very proud of her and she should have a lot of personal pride for getting back to this aspiring level. There is a bright future ahead for her."
In the 100m hurdles, junior Kyah Loyd posted 13.60 seconds to finish 39th.
Senior Hannah Patrick logged 41.60m in the javelin to place 43rd. Patrick completed an influential season in the throws for the team today and earned a seventh place spot in the Tulane record book this season for the javelin with a mark of 45.13m in Tampa at the AAC Outdoor Championship.
Senior Maya Harewood rounded out the Tulane athletes competing on the opening day with 55.74 seconds in the 400m to finish 45th. Harewood finished out her final competition for the Green Wave on a high note, she is especially remembered by her time of 53.67 for the 400m dash in the 2019 season to earn an eighth place all-time mark in the Tulane record book.
The Green Wave will be back in action on Saturday with Tri Malej in the triple jump. Malej is currently ranked 11th overall in the NCAA East, and has an excellent chance to advance to Nationals with this current ranking.
