Olive Earns the Bragging Rights

NEW ORLEANS — The Tulane University volleyball team got its final tune-up prior to the 2021 season on Saturday at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse in the Olive and Blue Scrimmage. The Olive team came out on top 2-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-20) in the three-set match.

The Olive squad hit .363 in the match, holding the Blue squad to a .250 attack percentage. Freshman right side hitter Skyler Bumpers led the Olive squad with 15 kills, hitting .609 in the three-set match.

Senior outside hitter Lexie Douglas led the Blue team offensively recording 12 kills while hitting .121.
In set one, the teams were even until the Blue squad went on a 3-0 run the take the lead off of a Chlesea Harvey kill. The Blue squad stretched it to five at 24-19 off of Bumpers' kill. The Blue team closed out the set 25-20 with a kill from Douglas.
In set two, The Olive squad jumped out to an 8-1 lead. They held the advantage until the Blue squad cut it to 15-13. The Olive squad kept the lead and closed out the set 25-23.
The third set opened 10-10. Until the Olive squad went on a 4-1 run to push the score to 14-11. The Blue squad tied it back up at 15 all but were unable to take control. The Olive squad took the final set of the match 25-20.
Tulane opens its home slate on Friday, Aug. 27, at 12:30 p.m. as the team hosts Northwestern State in the first of four home matches inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
