Myers Adds Four to the 2021-22 Roster
Aug 18, 2021 | Cross Country & Track
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University director of cross country and track and field Adrian Myers announced the addition of four newcomers for the 2021-22 season. Two, Mackenzie Callahan and Janae Dean, arrive from Northern Illinois University, while the others, Macy Turcotte and Margot Temines, are a pair of international students.
Callahan arrives Uptown after spending four seasons at Northern Illinois University. She was a cross country First Team All-MAC honoree in 2021. She helped NIU win the MAC team title and finished third at the MAC Championships in 21:04.3.
During her 2021 indoor season she helped NIU win its first MAC team championship in 2021 and finished third in the 800 at the MAC Championships with a season-best time of 2:13.31 and a season-best time of 9:43.74 to finish fifth in the 3,000 meters at the MAC Championships.
Come the outdoor season, she finished second in the 1,500 meters at the MAC Championships in a season-best time of 4:26.19. Before graduating from NIU, Callahan posted personal bests of 2:09.78 in the 800, 4:25.65 in the 1500 meters, 4:47.42 mile and 10:30.60 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
"Mackenzie is a proven competitor and leader," Myers said. "As an athlete, she has regularly contested for individual championships in the MAC both in cross-country and on the track. Those efforts helped lead the Huskies to two team titles and set her up for NCAA national success. I have no doubt over the coming seasons you will see Mackenzie has a similar impact for the Green Wave. It has been an absolute pleasure to see Mackenzie grow into the elite student-athlete that she is. I am even more blessed to see her finish the final leg of her collegiate career here at Tulane."
She helped the Huskies win the MAC team titles in cross country and indoor track in her opening season. The Hoffman Estates, Ill., native was a member of NIU's second place 4x400-meter relay team at the Indoor MAC Championships. She finished seventh in the 800 meters at the Indoor MAC Championships with a time of 2:21.20. At the start of the indoor season, Dean ran a season-best time of 5:22.46 in the mile, finishing second, at the Bowling Green Opener.
Tourcotte comes to Tulane from Ontario Canada. At the 2019 Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations Championships, she placed 14th in the cross country. Tourcotte also posted a personal-best of 2:17.9 to finish eighth in the 800 meters. She rounded out the championship with a personal-best of 59.8 to finish seventh in the 400 meters.
At the 2018 championship, Tourcotte ran a personal-best of 24:45.6 in the 6,000 meters.
"Macy is one of the top talents to come out of Canada's '21 class," Myers said. "Unfortunately for her, the pandemic really hurt her opportunity to compete over the last couple years. With that said, Macy is a big-time talent and hard worker with the ability to immediately make an impact this fall and, on the track, moving forward. To place where she has within the Ontario Championships as a young athlete shows only a sliver of what she will be capable here in Uptown!"
Dean arrives Uptown after spending her freshman season at Northern Illinois.
"Janae is a big time talent with developing range on the track," Meyers said. "One thing you'll see with Dean is she's a competitor, especially at championships. At NIU, she scored in the 800m and 4x400m relays indoors and outdoors as a true freshman. She is only beginning to see a small glimpse of what she's capable of. Janae has NCAA level talent and I truly am excited to see her blossom here with our program."
In the outdoor season, the freshman finished seventh in the 800 meters at the Outdoor MAC Championships in a season-best time of 2:11.06. Dean was also a member of NIU's third place 4x400-meter relay at the MAC Championship. She posted the first win of the season in the 800 meters at the EIU Big Blue Classic in a time of 2:15.01. Dean ran a season-best time of 4:46.39 to finish seventh in the 1,500 meters at the Redbird Invitational. In her one season at NIU, Dean posted a personal best of 2:13.92 in the 800-meter at the MAC Indoor Championships where she placed seventh in the event.
Temines arrives from France where she competed individually in the heptathlon. She currently ranks in the top 250 in the world in the women's heptathlon. She reached as high as 158 in the event in her career.
"Margot is one of the top multi athletes in the world with a personal best heptathlon over 5500 points," Myers said. "This young lady is just getting started and I cannot wait to see what she accomplishes within the league and national ranks for the Green Wave. We collectively are very excited to see her elite talent shine under our program's guidance and mentorship while earning a graduate degree with the Green Wave. Her French might come in handy here in the Big Easy as well, Welcome Margot!"
The French national brings an impressive list of personal bests to the Green Wave. She sports a time of 14.02 in the 100-meter hurdles and an 8.70 in the 60-meter hurdles. Temines also boasts a personal best of 5.98 in the long jump.
Her best score in the heptathlon came in 2019 with a score of 5513 at the French U20 Laval meet. She posted a 1.75 in the high jump in the spring of 2021.
