LEXINGTON, KY – Another day, another personal record. This time from Kristen O'Handley.
Tulane graduate student Kristen O'Handley broke her own best mark in the 60m hurdles on the second day of the Jim Green Invitational on the campus of the University of Kentucky. Her 8.74 mark also claims the sixth-best spot in program history for the event.
"I was happy with how Kristen competed this weekend," coach Adrian Myers said. "She works hard every day and is already reaping the fruits of her labor. I'm excited to see her keep progressing this spring."
The Green Wave saw five other top-five finishes on Saturday. One of the most notable being Hunter Robinson's second-place finish in the 400m. The senior trailed first place by .11 with her tom of 56.72. Janae Dean (58.68), Louise Jones (58.79) and Oneke Gwan (58.91) also took top ten finishes in the event.
Tulane placed well in the triple jump with fifth, seventh and eighth place finishes from Theo Malej (11.89), Jing Ren (11.44) and Jordyn Lesh (11.28) respectively.
"Hunter and Jordyn had strong opening performances this weekend in their respective events. I expect to see their best indoor seasons to date if they keep this up."
Therese Olshanski represented the Green Wave well, with her sixth-place 2:18.68 finish in the 800m. Aldrianna Dupree finished sixth in the women's 60m with a time of 7.80.
Rounding out the competition day was the women's 4x400. Finishing fourth in a close race with a time of 3:56.42.
"I like seeing that we have some folks rounding out strong early season performances. But like a lot of early-season meets, we also had some that weren't quite as expected. I'm excited to see us pull our groups together over the season and see what we can do."
Next up for the Green Wave will be a return to Birmingham, Alabama as the team takes part in the Samford Invite meet beginning Thursday, Jan. 20.
