Tulane Men’s Tennis Shuts Out Alcorn State, 7-0
Jan 20, 2022 | Men's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University men's tennis team continued its strong play to the start of 2022, as it picked up a convincing 7-0 victory over Alcorn State Thursday afternoon at the City Park Tennis Center.
The Green Wave battled chilly conditions with a hot start as they claimed the doubles point thanks to wins by the duos of Rafel De Alba/Alex Bancila and Benji Jacobson/Charlie Barrie to give Tulane a 1-0 lead.
"We had some really tough conditions today, but the way the guys kept their heads calm was the biggest thing," head coach Mark Booras said. "These guys (Alcorn State) were hungry to take it to us, but we stepped up well in doubles and everybody stepped up in singles."
Tulane put ASU away quickly in singles competition, as Barry, Luka Petrovic and De Alba all posted impressive straight set wins. The Tulane trio combined to limit ASU to just two wins on courts six, five and four.
With the win over Alcorn State, Tulane opens the spring portion of its schedule 2-0 for the 10th straight year.
Tulane returns to action on Jan. 30, as it heads to Orlando, Florida, for the ITA Kickoff.
