LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Tulane University cross country team took part in the 21st annual Live in Lou Classic at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park, hosted by Louisville, on Saturday.
Junior Bradley Makuvire was able to pull off a seventh finish running a 23:32.6. Senior Aaron Gilliam placed 11th coming in at 23:43. 2.
"Bradley and Aaron ran lights out and very indicative of what they are capable down the road," director of cross country/track & field Adrian Myers said. "They have very high goals for themselves this fall and they are tracking towards them beautifully. Arturs ran big today for us today in his first 8K. To be under 25 minutes as a freshman in your first 8K is an awesome start. I'm very happy that his work is showing in progress."
On the women's side, senior Mackenzie Callahan was the top finisher to the Green Wave at 30th with a time of 17:17.7.
"Mackenzie ran up in the lead group the majority of the race," Myers said. "She's super fit right now but struggled to switch some gears. We can make those tweaks in the week's agenda training. She knows we're always ready come championship season."
Neither team expected to finish the way they did, but both look to the next race as the season continues.
"As a women's group we definitely did not expect the result, but I believe we can fix some of it," Myers said. "We are fit as a group and in a good place, we just need to tie loose ends together between now and conference. We can be a championship program on the women's side on the right day. This was not the right day for us unfortunately."
