Bancila and de Alba Open ITA Southern Regional with Singles Wins

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Tulane University men's tennis juniors Alex Bancila and Rafael de Alba opened the ITA Division I Men's Southern Regional Championships with singles victories on Thursday to advance to the qualifying draw round of 32.
Bancila hit the court for the first match of the day for a member of the Green Wave when he squared off against Iker Dellien of UAB in the qualifying round of 64. The Hudson, Ohio, product made quick work of his Blazer opponent winning in two sets (6-1, 6-2) to advance to the next round.
The afternoon continued on a high note for Tulane as de Alba hit the court later to face Kristofer Johnson from Alabama State. The junior from Monterrey, Mexico, kept the momentum rolling for the Wave earning a victory in two sets (7-5, 6-2) as well to advance to the round of 32.
Bancila and de Alba will return to action on Friday with a chance to move on to the round of 16 in the singles qualifying draw.
