TULSA, Okla. – Tulane University Men's Tennis junior Fynn Kuenkler made his debut at the 2022 ITA Men's All-American Championships on Monday with a three-set victory to advance to the qualifiers round of 64.
Kuenkler squared off against Michael Zheng of Columbia University in the round of 128 in the qualifiers in his first of the ITA All-American Championships. After dropping the first set of the match, the Bielefeld, Germany, product bounced back to take a hard-fought second set in a tie break to force a decisive third set. Kuenkler took advantage of the third set, winning 6-1, to claim the match victory in three sets and advance to the round of 64.
With his victory, Kuenkler becomes the first player for the Green Wave to earn a win at the ITA All-American Championships since 2019 when Tulane was represented by four players in the singles main draw (Ewan Moore, Dane Esses, Luis Erlenbusch, Hamish Stewart).
On Tuesday, Kuenkler will take on Herman Hoeyeraal from Arizona for a chance to advance to the round of 32. That match is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
