
Volleyball Drops Sunday's Match to UCF

NEW ORLEANS -ย The Tulane University volleyball team (6-11) dropped to 1-5 in American Athletic Conference play after a tough three-set loss (25-22, 25-22, 25-20) to UCF (13-1; 5-1) on Sunday afternoon at the Avron B. Fogelman Arena inside Devlin Fieldhouse.
The Green Wave offense hit .124 in the match and held the Knights to a .254 attack percentage. Outside hitterย Amarachi Osujiย led the Wave with nine kills, hitting .250 overall.
Kayla Kaiser also got in her fair share of kills with seven and a .250ย hitting percentage. The Green Wave saw defensive power from blocker Melissa Klourbasi, who led the team with three blocks.
Liberoย Jillian Ditsย carried the defensive duties with 17 digs and three assists. Senior setterย Kate Van Houtenย talliedย 18 assists in this match.
ย The Green Wave got an early lead in the first set pulling ahead 14-8, but UCF was able to come back to tie it up at a score of 15-15. After falling behind 22-24, the Green Wave called a time-out but could not pull through, dropping the first set 25-22.
The two teams went point for point in the second, but the Green Wave fell behind, giving UCF the lead by 15-12. After a kill by UCF and an error making the score 24-20, the Green Wave called a time-out but was unable to pull through, dropping the second set to 25-22, the same as the first.
The beginning of the third set was a meticulous battle for every point, until UFC took the first lead by three, making the score 15-12. The Green Wave fell behind soon after but was able to push out a three-point run making the score 20-16. The Green wave fought hard but was unable to pull out the win, dropping the set at a score of 25-20.ย ย
Tulane will be back next weekend when it hits the road to face the University of Memphis (12-6). The match is set for October 14, at 6 p.m. on Friday.
