Tulsa Completes Comeback Against Visiting Tulane

TULSA, OK – Tulane Volleyball won the first two sets at Tulsa on Sunday afternoon but couldn't hold on for the victory, falling in five sets by scores of 25-15, 25-18, 23-25, 26-28, 13-15.

The Green Wave dropped to 8-19 overall and 3-13 in American Athletic Conference action. Tulsa improved to 12-15, 5-10.

Tulane had four players register double-digit kills, with Mackenzie Martin's 18 leading the way. Amarachi Osuji, Melissa Kolurbasi and Kayla Kaiser all posted 14.

Jillian Dits had 40 digs to lead the defensive effort. As a team, Tulane outblocked the Golden Hurricane 9-3.

Kayley Cassaday recorded 20 kills to lead Tulsa.

The visitors also outhit host Tulsa .263 to .177.

Tulane breezed through the first two sets and a Kaiser kill drew the Green Wave even at 23-apiece in the third set. However, kills from Tulsa's Cassaday and Arianna Mongare sent the contest to a fourth set.

The Green Wave built considerable leads (14-8, 18-13, 22-18) in the fourth set but the home team remained resilient. Tulane staved off two set points but the Golden Hurricane took advantage of a Tulane hitting error for the final point and the match drifted into a fifth period.

Tulane led 10-7 again in the deciding set but Tulsa ran off seven of the next nine points to have match point at 14-12. Cassaday then registered the final kill of the contest to secure the victory for the Golden Hurricane.

The two hour, 36-minute match saw 34 ties and 10 lead changes.

The Green Wave hosts a pair of contests on Friday (6:30 p.m. vs. SMU) and Sunday (1 p.m. vs. Memphis) in the final homestand of the season.
