Swimming and Diving Completes First Day of the 2022 Phill Hansel Invitational

HOUSTON – The Tulane swimming & diving team completed day one of the Phill Hansel Invitational Thursday at the CRWC Natatorium in Houston.
The meet is cumulative, being scored over the three-day invitational.
The Green Wave currently sits in fifth place out of six teams with a score of 198. Leading the meet is the hosts, The University of Houston with 536.5 points.
"Great way to start the weekend! Our women brought a lot of energy to both sessions, and we came out with some big performances," head coach Amanda Caldwell said. "Looking forward to the next two days where we are strongest."
500-yard Freestyle was the first preliminary event of the day. Freshman Sydney Mullin came out with the third-place time (4:51.42) sealing her spot in the finals this mark also represents her lifetime best. She would go on to take sixth in the finals with a time of 4:57.89. Junior Jennifer Gougelmann wasn't far behind placing nineteenth in the prelims with a time of 5:03.36 also marking her lifetime best.
Tulane's 200-yard freestyle relay team would place third in their finals with Grace Dale, swimming the first leg, followed by Eleanor McMeen, Riley Hendrix and Sam Krew as the anchor.
The 400-medley relay was the final event of the night. For the Green Wave Gianna Spremullo, Liv Davison, Eleanor McMeen, and Riley Hendrix made up the Tulane "A" team. They would finish with a time of 3:56.97.
The Green Wave is back in action tomorrow for the second day of the Phil Hansel Invitational.
