SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Charlotte Russell and Lahari Yelamanchili rebound on day two of the ITA Fall National Championship to win their consolation match on Thursday. The duo fell behind early for the second day in a row but showed resilience to battle back and keep their journey alive with a three-set victory.
Russell and Yelamanchili faced Erin Richardson and Makenna Thiel from Cal in the first round of the consolation bracket Thursday. After losing the opening set 3-6, the Tulane pair took care of business in the second set winning 6-3 to force a third and decisive set. Russell and Yelamanchili capitalized on the momentum from the second set to take down the Cal duo 10-2 in the final set and advance to the consolation quarterfinals.
The Green Wave duo will battle to stay alive in the tournament again in their next match of the consolation bracket on Friday. Russell and Yelamanchili are set to face Margaux Maquet and Lucia Quiterio from UNC Charlotte in the quarterfinals of consolation play.
