Tulane Hosts South Florida to Open AAC Play

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Women's Basketball opens American Athletic Conference play on Friday hosting South Florida inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The matchup between the Green Wave and the Bulls is set to tipoff at 6 p.m.

This marks the 49th all-time meeting between Tulane and South Florida with the Wave trailing the series 20-28. The Green Wave and the Bulls split their two meetings last season with Tulane winning the latest matchup 67- 55 on February 6, 2022, in Tampa, Fla.

In its last time out, Tulane closed out its non-conference schedule with a dominant 81-30 victory at home over Tougaloo College on Wednesday. Three players scored in double figures for the Green Wave with Marta Galic leading all scorers in the game with 16 points. Kyren Whittington added 13 points while McKenzi Carter posted a career-high 10 against the Bulldogs.

Four players are averaging double figures in scoring for the Green Wave this season. Galic leads the team with 14.4 points per contest. Jones follows with 12.9 points per game while Whittington posts 11.2 and Hakes averages 10.2 points per game. Galic leads the American Athletic Conference and ranks fourth nationally in three-pointers per game with 3.31.

Tulane ranks second the AAC in assists per game (17.5) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.10). Hakes leads the league in assists (77), assists per game (5.9), and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.75).

South Florida enters the matchup with an 11-4 record following a 66-65 overtime win over No. 17 Arkansas in the San Diego Invitational on Dec. 21. The Bulls are averaging just 70.5 points per game on 44.4 percent shooting this season. South Florida leads the AAC in three-point percentage connecting at a 36.0 percent clip. Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu leads the conference in scoring with 16.9 points per game and ranks second in the league in rebounding at 11.9.

Following the matchup with the Bulls, the Green Wave will host the Houston Cougars on Thursday, January 5. Tipoff between Tulane and the Cougars is set for 6 p.m.
