Track and Field See Records in Two Road Meets
NEW ORLEANS — The Tulane indoor track and field team took to the road to compete in two separate competitions on Friday. The Green Wave sent teams to the Howie Ryan Invitational in Houston and the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Massachusetts.
"We had a good weekend between Houston and Boston," head coach Adrian Myers said. " I'm really proud of the progress shown across our event groups. Our team is beginning to see what it takes. I have a tremendous staff who works tirelessly with our student-athletes to help them breakthrough. We will continue to do that. We will continue to develop a championship culture here in Uptown. It's already beginning to show and I'm excited to say that."
HOWIE RYAN INVITATIONAL
The Howie Ryan Invitational took place on Friday in the Yeoman Fieldhouse. The Green Wave showed out in all events. Aldriana Dupree (Noonie) finished on top the 60m dash with a time of 7.47, the third best time in program history.
"Noonie has really come on since her big PR last week," Myers said "Loved seeing her win her prelim, then run her second fastest time ever in the final to win. I'm very proud of her progress."
Tulane also saw two first place finishes from Kyah Loyd In the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.54 and the 200m dash with a time of 25.06. Loyds' time on hurdles was her second fastest career time behind her program leading 8.33 time. Right behind Loyd in the hurdles was Kristen O'Handley with her new personal best and a fourth place program time of 8.54.
"Kyah is really starting to come along and know she has a big one in her. She picked up the hurdle title tonight with her teammate right behind her. Kristen continues to impress each weekend and is truly a testament to her hard work and attention to details. PRs aren't flukes nor accidents. There is a reason she has one pretty much every weekend."
Kara Steele took home the fourth first-place finish of the day competing unattached in the triple jump. To cap off a day of first place performance the women's 4x400 relay ran a 3:49.72.
BU DAVID HEMERY VALENTINE INVITATIONAL
The BU Davis Hemery Valentine Invitational took place on Friday in the Track & Tennis Center.
Tulane sent two athletes to represent the Olive and Blue in distance. Mackenzie Callahan and Therese Olshanski took to the mile. Callahan hit a person record of 4:44.33. Olshanski finished the mile with a 4:59.73 time.
"Mackenzie has been primed for a big one and even faced some adversity through the race but worked through it and threw down a big PR," Myers said "In a cleaner race with less jostling or maybe a smaller field, I believe she breaks 4:40, which is an elite milestone at that distance. I am very proud of her hard work; it is starting to pay off. They've been working hard and now we just need to focus on the opportunities ahead."
