Tulane Men’s Tennis Rolls Past Rice, 6-1
Feb 19, 2022 | Men's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University men's tennis team returned to the win column as it defeated the Rice Owls 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the City Park Tennis Center. The Green Wave took advantage of comeback victories in doubles competition to grab the momentum and earn its third home win of the year.
During doubles play the duos of Fynn Kuenkler and Luc Hoeijmans and Billy Suarez and Rafael de Alba erased early deficits to each win their match 6-4 and claim the doubles point for Tulane.
Kuenkler set the tone in singles competition winning in two sets 6-1, 6-0. His doubles partner joined the singles win column shortly after as Hoeijmans won in two set 6-3, 7-5 on court one. Suarez clinched the match for the Green Wave with a hard-fought three-set victory on court three 6-4, 4-6, 6-0. Tulane added a fifth point on a tiebreak win in the second set by de Alba before Luka Petrovic closed the day with a three-set victory of his own.
The Green Wave will be back in action on Tuesday, February 22, as it hosts in-state rival LSU at the City Park Tennis Center. The match between Tulane and the Tigers is set to begin at 1 p.m. CT.
