Feb 5, 2022 | Track & Field
NEW ORLEANS — The Tulane indoor track and field team took to the road this weekend to compete in three separate competitions. The Green Wave sent teams to the Crimson Elite meet at Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the Bayou Bengal meet at LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and the Charlie Thomas Invitational in College Station, Texas.
CRIMSON ELITE
The Crimson Elite took place on Friday in the Gordon Indoor Track.
The Green Wave showed out in the women's pentathlon. Margo Temines sent a program record with a score of 3,891 which earned her a third-place finish.
Tulane also saw personal records from Kristen O'Handley (3,736), Patricija Ozolina (3,664) and Kiai Todd (2,856) who came in fourth, sixth and eighth, respectively. Migle Muraskate wasn't without recognition placing fifth with a score of 3,715, a season best.
"I'm very proud of the group that competed today at Harvard," associate head coach Agne Eggerth said. "The work they put in is finally showing. We still have fine tuning to do before conference, but this meet showed us that we are definitely on the right path."
BAYOU BENGAL
The Bayou Bengal took place on Friday in the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.
Kate Sander and Kristina Leggas tied for third in the pole vault with Johanna Duplantis of LSU. Megan Fitzgerald posted a new season best and an indoor personal record of 3.60m in the pole vault. Theo Malej came in fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 11.82m.
On the track, Tulane saw top five finishes from two athletes. In the 400m dash Hunter Robinson finished second with a time of 58.62 and Oneke Gwan was close behind with a fourth-place finishing time of 58.66. Gwan also finished fourth in the 200m dash with a time of 25.91.
"I am happy we had some consistent performances at such a high caliber meet," coach Ethan Sandusky said. "Consistency is always a key step in progress. We are looking to build a culture of consistent performances."
CHARLIE THOMAS INVITATIONAL
The Charlie Thomas Invitational took place on Saturday in the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.
Tulane sent five athletes to represent the Olive and Blue in the Lone Star state.
Mackenzie Callahan and Therese Olshanski took to the mile. Callahan finished fourth with a time of 4:49.77 in the mile run. Olshanski finished the mile with a 5:02.23 time. She also recorded a third-place time of 10:05.62 in the 3,000m.
"We as a group are exiting a fairly taxing training," head coach Adrian Myers said "As a result, this weekend for us on the annual calendar can be very unpredictable in racing. We had a PR today from Macy and a season's best from Therese. So that's worth mentioning for sure. But we need to wrench up on some specific training sessions leading into AACs and overall, just rest up. They've been working hard and now we just need to focus on the opportunities ahead.
