Beach Volleyball Goes 2-0 on Day One of Tulane Classic

NEW ORLEANS — Tulane beach volleyball grabbed two 3-2 victories on day one of the Tulane Classic on Friday.

Tulane matched up with UAB first this morning and spent the afternoon facing off against Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

Haley Gibson and Savka Popovic paired up on court five winning 21-14, 21-19.

Josie Cole and Sam Green teamed up on court four as they defeated UAB's fourth pair in a third set. They won 21-14, 19-21 and 15-11.

Samantha Mehlman and Lara Torruella dominated as the third pair clinching the team win for the Wave in the third set. They went 21-12, 14-21, 15-11.

Gibson and Popovic got the first-afternoon point for the Green Wave. The fifth pair took the match 21-12, 23-12.

Mehlman and Tourrella followed in suit winning 21-13, 21-16 on court two against TAMUCC.

Mares and Hall had the clinching win for Tulane in the afternoon, again needing a third set of action. The first two sets went down to the wire at 21-19, 19-21. In the third, the Green Wave pair would stick it out to win 15-12.
