
Tulane Women’s Tennis Set to Host No. 54 SMU Tuesday

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University women's tennis team will aim for its fourth-straight win as it welcomes No. 54 SMU to the City Park Tennis Center on Tuesday. The Green Wave is riding a three-match win streak with victories over Louisiana-Lafayette, Middle Tennessee, and South Florida.
Tulane trails the all-time series against SMU 2-8 including a current five-match losing streak against the Mustangs. The Wave holds a 1-4 record at home against SMU. The last time Tulane defeated the Mustangs came on March 22, 2015, in Dallas when the Green Wave won 4-0. Tulane last beat SMU in New Orleans on February 1, 2013, 4-3. This year the Wave is 6-1 in matches played at the City Park Tennis Center in New Orleans.
The Green Wave is led on the doubles courts by the pairing of Lahari Yelamanchili and Charlotte Russell. The duo holds a 9-1 record this season with wins in their last four matches. The new pairing of Adelaide Lavery and Jiayun Zhu is off to a strong start for Tulane as well posting wins in their first two matches together.
In singles action the Wave is paced by Yelamanchili and Russell each with an 8-1 record. Sophomore Cora Barber is also off to a strong start on the singles courts as she is a perfect 4-0 to start the year.
Following its match with the Mustangs, the Green Wave will hit the road to Houston to face the Cougars on Saturday, March 19, and the No. 71 Rice Owls on Sunday, March 20. The match between Tulane and Houston is set for 1 p.m. CT while the match against the Owls will start at 11 a.m. CT.
