Tulane Men’s Tennis Drops Tight Match to No. 35 Memphis
Mar 18, 2022 | Men's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – The No. 57 Tulane University men's tennis falls 4-3 in an intense match against No. 35 Memphis Friday at the City Park Tennis Center. After dropping the doubles point, the Green Wave battled to give itself a chance to win in the final singles matches but ultimately fell short down the stretch to the Tigers.
With the loss, Tulane drops to 6-8 overall on the season and 3-2 at home. The Wave also dropped its first match against the Tigers since the 2018 campaign.
The duo of Fynn Kuenkler and Luc Hoeijmans got the Green Wave off to a strong start picking up the first win in doubles play 6-3 on court two over Oscar Cutting and Pablo Alemany of Memphis. The Tigers bounced back to even the score in doubles on court one, before Tulane ended just shy of taking the doubles point as Luka Petrovic and Rafael de Alba fell in a tiebreak on court three.
After Memphis picked up the first singles point on court four to go up 2-0, Kuenkler stepped up to put Tulane on the board with a two-set win over Cutting. The next point went to the Tigers, but the Wave responded again this time with Hoeijmans securing a three-set win to make the score 3-2. Petrovic battled hard to try and tie the score with a tough two-set match on court two, but unfortunately Memphis managed to come out on top. The Green Wave put one more point on the board on court six to end the day after Charlie Barry picked up the win when Harry Rock withdrew in the third set.
Up next, the Green Wave will welcome No. 71 Oklahoma State to New Orleans on Sunday, March 20. The match between Tulane and the Cowboys is set for 1 p.m. CT at City Park Tennis Center.
