Tulane Men’s Tennis Falls Short Against No. 71 Oklahoma State

NEW ORLEANS – The No. 57 Tulane University men's tennis fought the very end in a tight match against No. 71 Oklahoma State, but ultimately finished just short of completing a come from behind victory as it fell 4-3 to the Cowboys on Saturday. After falling behind 2-0, the Green Wave battled back to tie the score twice before eventually having its comeback bid spoiled on the final court.
With the loss, Tulane drops to 6-9 overall on the season and 3-3 at home this year.
In doubles play the Wave lost the first match on court one, but the pairing of Luc Hoeijmans and Fynn Kuenkler evened the doubles action with a 6-3 win on court two. However, the double point went to Oklahoma State as the Cowboys picked up the decisive point on court three.
Tulane started a bit slow in singles as OSU took a 2-0 lead in the match with a win to on court two to open singles action. The Green Wave responded by picking up wins on courts five and three to tie the score at 2-2. Alex Bancila picked up the first point for the Wave winning in two sets against Leighton Allen 6-4, 6-0. Luka Petrovic followed shortly after to tie the match with a two-set victory of his own over Sebastian Nothhaft. After the Cowboys reclaimed the lead 3-2, Rafael de Alba delivered a two-set win on court three 6-4, 6-3 to bring the match back to a tie at 3-3. Unfortunately, the final point did not end in the Wave's favor on court six as Tulane dropped another close match 4-3.
Up next, the Green Wave will host No. 30 Tulsa in New Orleans on Friday, March 25. The match between Tulane and the Golden Hurricane is set for 1 p.m. CT at City Park Tennis Center.
