Mar 25, 2022 | Men's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – The No. 64 Tulane University men's tennis bounced back into the win column with a come from behind victory over No. 32 Tulsa on Friday afternoon. The Green Wave responded to win on four courts in singles after dropping the doubles point to the Golden Hurricane.
With the victory, the Green Wave improves to 7-9 overall on the season and earned its first win over a ranked opponent this season. The win also extended Tulane's win streak against Tulsa to four matches and pushed the Wave back over .500 at home with a 4-3 record.
Doubles play was highly contested between Tulane and Tulsa with two of the three courts reaching a tiebreak. After the Golden Hurricane picked up the first win in doubles, the duos of Charlie Barry and Benji Jacobson and Alex Bancila and Luka Petrovic battled into tiebreaks on courts two and three. Unfortunately, the tiebreak did not fall the Green Wave's way on court three with Bancila and Petrovic coming up short as the doubles point went to Tulsa.
Tulane bounced back with new life in singles play as Bancila earned a two-set win over Callum Gale to even the score at one point apiece. Tulsa reclaimed the lead with a win on court one, but it did not last long with Barry tying the score again with a two-set win on court six. In a hard-fought matchup on court two Fynn Kuenkler delivered the Green Wave the lead with win over the 83rd-ranked singles player in the nation, Ezequiel Santalla. Petrovic and Rafael de Alba each went to a third set with the match on the line and Petrovic stepped up to secure the match victory for Tulane with a clutch 6-2 win in his final set.
Up next, the Green Wave will host top-ranked TCU in New Orleans on Sunday, March 27. The match between Tulane and the Horned Frogs is set for 1 p.m. CT at City Park Tennis Center.
