Tulane Men’s Tennis Falls to Top-Ranked TCU
Mar 27, 2022 | Men's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – The No. 64 Tulane University men's tennis dropped its home match against No. 1 TCU 7-0 at City Park Tennis Center Sunday afternoon. After competing in tight matches in doubles, the Green Wave ultimately dropped the doubles point and the Horned Frogs carried that momentum to clinch the overall match in singles play.
With the loss, Tulane falls to 7-10 overall on the season and drops to 4-4 in home matches this year.
The Green Wave battled in doubles competition as the pairing of Fynn Kuenkler and Luc Hoeijmans faced a 5-5 tie against the third-ranked pair in the nation. Over on court three the duo of Alex Bancila and Luka Petrovic also fought to a 5-5 tie, but their match went unfinished as TCU managed to clinch the doubles point against Kuenkler and Hoeijmans down the stretch.
Unfortunately, the momentum from doubles play carried over into singles action for the Horned Frogs. TCU picked up victories on courts two, three and four to secure the match victory. Kuenkler battled with the 18-ranked player in the country before ultimately dropping his match in two-sets. Bancila picked up a win in his first set against the 65th-ranked player in the nation before going to a 10-point tiebreak where the point fell to the Horned Frogs. TCU landed one more win on the day on court six as Tulane dropped the overall match 7-0 to the top-ranked Horned Frogs.
Up next, the Green Wave will welcome No. 54 South Florida to New Orleans Friday, April 1. The match between Tulane and the Bulls is set for 1 p.m. CT at City Park Tennis Center.
