Apr 1, 2022 | Men's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – The No. 58 Tulane University men's tennis dropped its second consecutive match as it lost to No. 56 South Florida 5-2 on Friday afternoon at City Park Tennis Center. After losing the doubles point to the Bulls, the Green Wave battled in singles action but was only able to secure two points.
With the loss, Tulane falls to 7-11 on the season and drops below .500 in home matches with a 4-5 mark this year.
South Florida picked up the first win in doubles play on court three before the pairing of Charlie Barry and Benji Jacobson picked up a 6-2 victory for Tulane on court one to even the score 1-1 in doubles. In a back-and-forth affair on court two the Bulls ultimately secured the doubles point as Fynn Kuenkler and Luc Hoeijmans dropped their match 6-4.
After USF pushed its lead to 3-0 by earning wins on courts three and one in singles, Kuenkler stepped up to put the Green Wave on the board with a two-set victory over Chase Ferguson. The match was clinched for the Bulls on court four shortly after, but Alex Bancila and Barry continued to battle in their matches. Bancila and Barry each forced a 10-point tiebreak to decide their individual matches and Barry earned the final point for the Wave by winning his tiebreak 10-8.
Up next, the Green Wave will welcome No. 57 Central Florida to New Orleans Sunday, April 3. The match between Tulane and the Knights is set for 1 p.m. CT at City Park Tennis Center.
